THE BIG ISSUE
The rural women in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria were selling their Palm Oil product with little or no profit and sometimes at a loss. There were cartels of monopolists – palm oil merchants that dominated the market and were taking advantage of the women’s illiteracy, ignorance of other market opportunities which aggravated their poverty and total dependence on the oil merchants. These rich monopolists also adulterate the product and use their money to oppress the poor women to sell their products to them against their wish. The women have been doing this with tears for over 70 years.
When all efforts from traditional rulers, community leaders and even Government intervention programs had failed to change the system into a fair play for everyone, OLADEC designed a four-in- one project to liberate :
- these poor women from the difficult, hard labor and unhygienic method of processing palm nuts for oil through trainings on ITP/ICT Adult education and new tools and technologies and,
- the economic bondage implicit in their inevitable dealings with the middle men, through securing markets for our products both locally and internationally.
.With these projects, OLADEC took over the processing, Packaging (to avoid adulteration) and Marketing of palm oil both locally and internationally .OLADEC is planning to build a Palm Oil Refinery of 30MT/PD with a storage facility of 30 million liters. It will positively impact the lives of one million rural women and youths throughout Nigeria.
We are proposing a product value chain development for palm oil by building a Palm Oil Refinery of 30MT/PD with a 30,000 metric ton storage facility. The refinery will collect palm oil processed by our members throughout the state and refine same for export and local consumption. The women will therefore be able to take control and benefit from the local and international pricing of their products from which they are currently excluded.
Our Ladies Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd, is one of the developmental links of Our Ladies Development Centre which has the legal authority, including Export Permit, to market the products of its members. and take charge of the entire process, from palm fruit processing by its members, to collection, refining and marketing of the palm oil locally and internationally in exchange with other products from other countries. We therefore designed the following programs to take care of all the issues bordering women and youths at the grassroots
- LIFT ME UP(ITP/ICT PROGRAM)
- QUICK AND SUSTAINABLE A (90 DAYS FASHION AND DESIGNS CRASH PROGRAM)
- LEND A HAND
- START SMALL AND GROW BIG.
